I learned to play chess at age six in 1970, awed by the period rhetoric of The Modern Chess Primer written in 1899! Two years on I avidly followed the Fischer–Spassky “Match of the Century” in Iceland. Later I won several tournament age titles beginning with the 1976 NSW under 13 state championship, followed by a number of high placings in adult competition. It was also in my early years I found an abiding passion in the field of electronic chess computers and chess technology.
